5 More Years = 40,000 More Deaths

Speaking of "getting some action", now that Prince Harry's gone home, Aussie gunners are going in to Helmland province. Our brave little soldiers will be killing Afghan civilians at a range of up to 17 km, so you needn't worry about them getting hurt.

Teh USA is calling for five more years of NATO brutality in Afghanistan. Canada's parliament has just voted to go along with the US plan, as long as everybody else does:
Otherwise, Canada will withdraw next year at the end of its current mandate.
More than 8,000 people were killed in Afghanistan last year, at least 1,500 of them civilians. Another five years of that makes 40,000 deaths, including at least 7,500 civilian deaths. What is the point? What are we actually doing over there, aside from securing oil pipelines and inflaming anti-Western radicalism?
